MCLL Proposes Boundary Change

Mid Carolina Little League Family,

We are aware of some information that has hit social media regarding our league and the future.  We as a board met two weeks ago and have decided to take a step to advance baseball in our community.  We have worked diligently over the past eight years to build the league and we have created a great foundation.  We are excited to see the existing group move forward and grow as the league grows.  However, we have decided that it is in our best interest to pursue a part of our community that is currently underrepresented in the Little League franchise.  The board has submitted a letter to Little League International to request a boundary change to our league that would now include the Chapin High School district.  The detailed letter with the background for the change can be found on our website.  Below are some quick facts on the proposed change.

  • Future boundary would include Newberry County and Chapin High School’s boundary
  • We had 120 kids in spring of 2021, 75 of which were in coaches pitch
  • There are 2,975 elementary kids in the current boundary of MCLL (Newberry County). There are three competing leagues in this boundary between MCLL, Mid Carolina DYB and Whitmire DYB.
  • The primary territory of MCLL (Mid Carolina High School) has 1,142 elementary kids. Again, these kids are split between MCLL and MCDYB.
  • Irmo LL’s territory includes more than 24,000 elementary kids.5,558 of those kids are in their primary territory of Irmo HS and Dutch Fork HS.13,432 kids live in the Lexington/Gilbert area.
  • Chapin has 1,760 kids between their three elementary schools.160 of these kids are currently playing at Irmo LL. Over 1,500 elementary kids in the Chapin area are not playing in a Little League organization.
  • The proposed boundary change will not affect the 160 kids that are currently playing in Irmo LL, nor will affect their siblings. Everyone currently playing will be able to continue to play with Irmo LL.
  • MCLL board will also support any future waiver that people from the Chapin area submit to play at Irmo LL. The Chapin area is between the Irmo fields and the Newberry County area and therefore MCLL wants everyone to have the option to play where they way.
  • MCLL will be changing our name to be more inclusive of the Chapin area if the boundary change is approved.
  • The new league will also pursue fields in the Chapin area.

Below is a copy of the letter that was submitted to Little League International as part of the request to expand our boundaries.
